Why Buy Optical Quality Reading Glasses?

What is the difference between Renee's READERS and other reading glasses?

Renee's READERS are made with premium quality optical lenses that will give you clear, undistorted, comfortable vision. We use the same optical grade plastics (CR-39) or polycarbonate lens material that you would find in quality prescription eyewear. Our lenses have a uniform surface with gradual curves (referred to as aspheric lenses) throughout the lens.  The frames are made from superior materials, the same as those used for prescription eyewear, which will provide durable, long-wearing comfort.  Better quality frames last longer. They fit better and they are able to withstand every day wear and tear. Better quality lenses provide better vision.  Optical quality lenses will give you the clearest vision if you don’t want or need prescription eyewear.  Renee's READERS are the best optical quality reading glasses, giving you the best value in performance, long wearing use in flatteringly stylish trend looks...just read our reviews.

How does lens quality affect your vision?

Optical quality lenses are made from premium quality plastics that meet specific ophthalmic standards. Free of waves, imperfections and providing true visual clarity; optical quality lenses allow you to see clearly effortlessly. If your eyes are struggling to see through a lens that is less than totally clear you will tire easily and may even get headaches or feel dizzy.  If you don’t want to spend a lot of money on your readers because you tend to lose them or you need several pairs; just get a few good pairs of reading glasses for those times that you want to read for more than a few minutes. Drug store readers may suffice for quick reads…a label, a menu…but when you need to read something for anything longer, choose optical quality reading glasses for noticeably clear, comfortable vision.

Does ready-made reading glasses correct for astigmatism?

Over the counter reading glasses do not correct for astigmatism but for many people they correct them quite well.  This is very subjective and is usually affected by how much astigmatism you have. Some people with lesser amounts of astigmatism may be unsatisfied with their vision, others may not. Anything above a 1.00 in the cylinder box of your prescription would best be corrected by prescription reading glasses.  Over the counter readers will correct you, but for long periods of reading, prescription reading glasses will be most comfortable and give you the clearest vision.  BTW, this also goes for people who have considerably different corrections in each eye.

Are ready made reading glasses suitable for high reading lens strengths?

Just a little information is needed for a better understanding as to why high lens powers are  best filled in prescription eyewear.  P.D./pupillary distance is the measurement  your optician takes to make sure that the  center of the lens, which is also the point where  you have the clearest vision, lines up with the  center of your eye. It should be taken for your distance correction and separately for your  reading/near correction since your eyes converge when you read. This simple  measurement is important and especially important as the lens strength increases. In  ready-made reading glasses whose P.D. is pre-set, some people who need high lens  strengths (above a 3.00) may feel uncomfortable reading.  As your lens power  increases, individual measurements are best  followed.  Ready-made readers are good but not for long periods of time.

What are Renee's READERS frames made from?

Renee’s READERS are made from the same premium cellulose acetate (plastic) and metals that you would find in many of todays high-end frames. In fact, they are made in the very same factories.  Quality frame parts such as hinges and screws fabricated in those very same high end factories makes ours the best in optical quality reading glasses.

Why is cellulose acetate called a natural plastic?

Cellulose Acetate is a natural plastic, which is manufactured from purified natural cellulose. Natural cellulose in the appropriate mix is derived from two basic sources, cotton linters and wood pulp. It is hypoallergenic and known for being strong, lightweight, and flexible. Cellulose acetate can also be made up in a wide range of colors and finishes.  For eyewear, cellulose acetate is used by forming layers of plastic into large blocks then carefully dividing it into individual parts, hand polishing and finally assembling them into a frame. Done properly, this is an extremely labor intensive process and can no way compare to mass produced injection-mold nylon readers.

What type of lenses do Renee's READERS use?

Renee’s READERS lenses are made from the best optical quality plastics which are aspheric in design so as to assure you continuous, clear vision and which are also light-weight, scratch resistant and have a hydrophobic coating for easy cleaning.

What are aspheric lenses?

An aspheric lens has curves that gradually flatten as your eyes move away from the center of the lens.  The result is a wider, undistorted field of view and a thinner, lighter lens with reduced magnification of your eyes.

Why buy reading glasses from Renee's READERS?

Renee’s READERS is not only fastidious about how we design and manufacturer our reading glasses but we are also fastidious about how we process your order. Every pair of reading glasses is inspected to make sure it meets our high quality standards as well as those set by the optical industry. Your frame is double-checked for proper alignment to ensure your best fit. Lenses are re-examined in our lensometer and all hinges and screws are checked  so that we know when we ship your order you are truly receiving the best quality reading glasses.

How good is the quality of Renee's READERS if they are made in China?

With most of today’s eyewear being made in China, it has become the go to place for manufacturing eyewear.  Eager to advance themselves, the Chinese have developed their expertise and proved themselves very capable of delivering high quality eyewear. It is through the collaboration of experienced technicians and craftsman that I was able to create a high quality product at an affordable price. Each region in China is known for different standards of quality; Renee’s READERS are manufactured in Shenzhen, the very same area where many of today’s high priced designer brands are manufactured.

Can I use Renee's READERS frames for my prescription from my eye doctor?

Renee's READERS are ophthalmic quality, which means that they are capable of going through the manufacturing process involved in inserting prescription lenses. Some frames may not be suitable for certain prescriptions. As a licensed optician, I can help you determine that. Just email your prescription to renee@reneesreaders.com (Allow approximately 1-3 days for an answer).

How do I prevent my reading glasses from scratching?

The best way to prevent scratching is to put your glasses in its case when you are not wearing them or to place them with the lenses side up when you take them off. Cleaning them with the microfiber cloth also reduces scratches. The lenses in all of Renee’s READERS are hard coated for scratch resistance with a hydrophobic coating to make cleaning easier.
