My inspiration for Renee’s Readers came from my optical shop customers, my friends...my readers. It really all started after my father died. Losing him was very difficult for me. Shortly after that, my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. As a devoted caregiver, I often felt emotionally drained and physically exhausted.
Having spent so much of my life taking care of others and seeing how age and illness had affected my parents, I couldn't help but think about my life and all the things I wanted to do. Designing my own line of eyewear is something I had been talking about for years.
Many of my customers noticed my caregiver stress. They knew it all too well. Some of them were going through the same thing. We were always on edge, waiting for a phone call that something happened… a fall or worse. We were frustrated that maybe we weren't doing enough to care for them or devoting enough time to our own families. And we felt guilty that we still wanted to enjoy our own lives as we were also confronting our own aging. In spite of these and life’s other challenges, everyone agreed how important it is to find the time to do the things we enjoy.
This is what I enjoy. I love to create, I love fashion and I love all the amazing people that I meet that I probably wouldn't have met if I didn't own an optical store.
Knowing that our lives are busier than ever, I believe that today's fashion should have easy fashionable and flattering looks and it must be practical and comfortable. In the hectic rush of modern living, we need dependable quality products that perform and in a style that's distinctive to our own. So in a now or never decision, I created Renee's Readers.
