Alzheimer's Walk to End

It’s that time of the year again where my town holds its Walk to End Alzheimer’s. I never miss it. This event has drawn more and more people over the years probably because more people are experiencing the affects  of Alzheimer’s in one way or another. For the afflicted it is frightening and undignified; for the caregivers it is enormously draining

Support groups and events like this not only raise awareness and raise funds, but they also raise spirits as tending to an Alzheimer’s patient is exhausting, depressing and often lonely.

So much progress has been made in creating awareness and increasing funding in the past few years but not nearly enough. As our population ages, so will the the number of people who have Alzheimer's . Alzheimer’s is a costly disease and the only cause of death in the U.S. that cannot be prevented, cured or its progression slowed down. The costs are astronomical in dollars, in care and quality of life.
